Dangerous Drugs - Lexapro
Lexapro is an antidepressent sometimes prescribed to young adults. On December 13th, 2006, the FDA concluded that antidepressant prescriptions to young adults can be risky due to the potential the drugs may cause suicidal thoughts. As a remedy, the organization proposed expanding the labeling of all anti-depressents to include a warning regarding suicidal thoughts in patients ranging in age from 18 to 24.
This warning would be in addition to the warning prescribed to children and adolescents treated with the drug. It would also include a warning to closely monitor individuals taking the drug, particularly those just starting antidepressant treatment.
