Dangerous Drugs - Plavix
Plavix, a popular but expensive antistroke drug, has been associated with the increased incidence of ulcers in patients. According to new research, patients who used Plavix experienced 12 times as many ulcers as patients who used the combination of aspirin and a heartburn pill. Approximately half of all doctors who prescribe Plavix do so because of the mistaken assumption that Plavix is safer for the stomach than traditional aspirin. The American College of Cardiology also recommends Plavix over aspirin in heart patients.
The new study suggests the guidelines regarding Plavix should be changed and heart patients switched to Aspirin and heartburn medication.
