Dangerous Drugs - Tequin

Tequin, otherwise known as gatifloxacin, is an antibiotic indicated for the treatment of patients with pneumonia, bronchitis, uncomplicated gonorrhea, and various infections including infections of the urinary tract, lungs, sinus, kidneys, and skin. It is also used to treat gonorrhea. Tequin is manufactured by Bristol-Meyers Squibb, and other forms of gatifloxacin are marketed as eye drops, tablous, and intravenous solutions.

In February of 2006, Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. announced labeling changes for Tequin. The changes update the prescription information as a result of continued reports of serious cases of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) in patients receiving Tequin. Since the approval of Tequin in 1999, there have been rare cases of life-threatening events reported world-wide in patients treated with the drug. Most of these events were reversible when properly managed, but a few had fatal outcomes.

Patients with low blood potassium, congenital prolongation of the QTc interval, irregular heartbeat, diabetes or high blood sugar should not take Tequin. In addition to common side effects (nausea, dizziness, etc.) Tequin has been shown to pose risks of serious blood sugar changes, severe allergic reactions, ruptured tendons, seizures, hallucinations and suicidal thoughts.

If you or a loved one has suffered an injury, illness or death, that seems to have been someone else's fault, call VanDerGinst Law at 1-866-843-7367 or click here for a FREE online case evaluation. The initial consultation is free of charge. If we agree to handle your injury case, we will work on a contingency fee basis, which means we get paid for our services only if, and when, there is a money recovery for you. So please call right away to ensure that you do not waive your right to possible compensation.
