VanDerGinst Law Hosts Crime Victim Seminar
On Friday, January 30th, VanDerGinst Law hosted an all day seminar presented by the National Crime Victim Bar Association. The seminar attracted approximately 80 crime victim advocates from agencies all over Illinois. The purpose of the seminar was to educate crime victim advocates regarding the possibilities for compensation that exist for victims of crime via the civil justice system. National director, Jeff Dion, outlined general principles of law with respect to crime victim compensation while Dennis VanDerGinst discussed the specific application of Illinois law to those principles. Some comments from attendees included:
- This training was very informative and educational
- I came to the training thinking I knew what I needed to help victims with their options, but I came away with much more knowledge and a renewed sense that there are more options for victims. Thank you!
- So informative and eye opening!
- Wonderful supplemental knowledge for advocates working with victims in the criminal process.
- Changed how I feel about civil lawsuits; I now feel like it is an excellent option to give victims who need it.
- Jeff Dion is a very effective speaker; the material is understandable- but not "dumbed down"; Dennis clearly has a mastery of IL law- very knowledgeable; both worked well together to present the material; very professional
- Superb! So very informative! Great source of information; great to have sensitive, victim- centered males! Thank you!
- Very, very helpful information; outstanding workshop!
- This is the most I have learned since I have been an advocate which has been 15 years.
- That was by far, the best workshop/seminar that I have ever (yes, Ever) attended. And thank you for sharing your story with all of us. I look forward to working more with Jeff and Dennis in the near future.
